Question: I'm thinking about refinishing my wrought iron furniture --table and six chairs. Instead of scraping off rust myself, learned that another option is to have it sandblasted. Then I assume it is ready to be sprayed. Do you know where one can go to have that done and how much it generally costs. And does that sound better than trying to get the rust off myself with steel wool? |
Jack's advice: Sandblasting the wrought iron furniture is by far the fastest and most complete way of removing the coatings and rust. Please check your local yellow pages for the names of people who sandblast in your area for a quotation. After they are cleaned you will need to apply a rust-inhibitive primer and a finish coat, we would recommend Benjamin Moore's Shop Coat Primer and Urethane Alkyd Gloss Enamel for a finish coat. Spraying the coatings on would be the fastest and most complete application, but you would need the proper equipment to apply it (HVLP or a quality conventional air system).

Question: My basement walls are wet. I scraped off the old UGL water proofing paint and the bottom of the wall is wet. what, short of B-dry, can i do? |
Jack's advice: For a paint type fix the UGL Drylok is about the best we can recommend. The product works by forcing the water to go elsewhere, if there is too much pressure, volume or long-term exposure it can fail. Sometimes cleaning the old paint off and re-coating with Drylok can be effective, but if there is too much volume or pressure you need to redirect the water somewhere else (either an interior or exterior drainage system).
